2. What Personal Data We Collect and Why

a. Comments

  • We collect data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
  • An anonymised string created from your email address (hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it (Gravatar service Privacy Policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/). After comment approval, your profile picture is public.

b. Media

  • If you upload images, avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Location data from images can be downloaded by visitors.

c. Cookies

  • Comments: If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies. These persist for one year.
  • Login Pages: We set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies, which contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  • Login Information: Cookies to save your login information and screen display choices last for two days; screen option cookies last for a year. “Remember Me” extends login persistence to two weeks. Upon logout, these cookies are removed.
  • Editing or Publishing: A cookie saved indicates the post ID of the article you edited; it expires after 1 day.

d. Embedded Content from Other Websites

  • Content (e.g., videos, images, articles) behaves as if the visitor has visited the source website, which may collect data, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor interaction, especially if logged in to that site.

3. Who We Share Your Data With

  • Your IP address is included in password reset emails.

4. How Long We Retain Your Data

  • Comments: Indefinitely retained to recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
  • Registered Users: Personal information is stored in their user profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their information at any time (username cannot be changed). Administrators can also view and edit this information.

5. Your Data Rights

  • If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data we hold, including data you provided. You can also request we erase your personal data, not including data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

6. Where Your Data Is Sent

  • Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
